Psalm 2:1-12

The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed

Why do the nations rage
    and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
    and the rulers take counsel together,
    against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,
“Let us burst their bonds apart
    and cast away their cords from us.”

He who sits in the heavens laughs;
    the Lord holds them in derision.
Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
    and terrify them in his fury, saying,
“As for me, I have set my King
    on Zion, my holy hill.”

I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, “You are my Son;
    today I have begotten you.
Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
    and the ends of the earth your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron
    and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”

10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
    be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear,
    and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son,
    lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
    for his wrath is quickly kindled.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

  1. Yes Dear Lord,you will bless those who respect and devote their lives to you. I pray for those who curse you and plot against you in vain. For you are the Lord almighty and are worthy to be praised. Amen.

  2. Lord, I Pray that the leaders of this country and other countries will turn their hearts to YOU!!! WE NEED A REVIVAL LORD!!!!

  3. Verse 8 says, “Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, the ends of the earth your possession”. This is another proof that God is faithful. He wants us to ask Him and He will do things for us. Now, we have to remember that He will do these things according to His will because He already has His plans laid out for us. My prayer, today is that we have the grace to be patient as we wait for answers from the Father.

  4. Our GOD asks for our obedience and praise. A small request in the light of what He gives us in return.

  5. Lord, help us to be wise and seek Your will, to live to glorify You and not ourselves. Thank you for being my refuge.

  6. Every knee shall bow that Jesus is Lord! We need to pray that are leaders of the nations come to know Him!

  7. God is not going to bless a country or culture that comes up with it’s own rules and ask Him to bless it!
    My prayer is 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land,”

  8. The act of rulers setting themselves against the Lord and His Anointed has always had consequences. It should be terrifying to think of the Lord laughing and holding them in derision…sadly, they have put themselves above God’s teachings. We need to pray for them daily.

  9. Always remember – Obedience brings blessing and disobedience brings conflict.
    Galatians 6:7 – “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap.”

  10. Our rulers are like the people of Nineveh, wicked. Making decisions over people lives as though they are the creator of all things. Our rulers have no fear of the Lord. The Lord tells us not to fear the ones that can only harm our body, but the One who can harm our body and soul. So, my salvation is in the Lord. Praise God!

  11. Oh Lord…..I pray for our leaders. For their hearts to be turned to you and in tune with what your desire. Help us to focus on what you want for our country. Forgive us when we fall and follow our own way….bring us back to you! Pour your blessing out on all who seek you!

  12. I listened to a commentary by David Guzik about this chapter today. So good.

    Luke tells us in Acts 4:24-26 that this psalm was written by King David, This chapter is all about Jesus throughout; Jesus is referred to as his King, the Anointed, the Son…

    Often those that reject and defy God, perceive God to be a bondage bringer, when God is very much the opposite, a bondage breaker.
    “The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17). “..who the son sets free is free indeed” (John 8:36)
    Guzik quoted this from Charles Spurgeon:
    “To a graceless neck, the yoke of Christ is intolerable, but to the saved sinner, it is easy and light. We may judge ourselves by this, do we love that yoke or do we wish to cast it from us? “

    God looks at the opposition of humanity and He laughs! (Love that)
    Why does He laugh, one might ask? He has authority over all creation. He is sitting on the throne of heaven in perfect piece; not worried, not wondering what to do next, not pacing back and forth….He knows all, beginning to the end. Trust Him. The battle belongs to Him, and we all know who has the victory and how the story ends. “Rejoice with trembling!!” Hallelujah!

    We can defy God and perish or we can surrender to God and be blessed.

    🎶🎤 I Surrender 🎤🎶

  13. We plot, & we scheme with no thought that GOD hears everything we whisper in secret. We fail to see the Almighty, All Powerful GOD working through us & our rebellion to bring HIM glory. We need to embrace HIS discipline & receive HIS instructions & submit to HIS authority. Psalm 5:11 states; “But let all who take refuge in YOU rejoice, let them shout for joy forever. May YOU shelter them, and may those who love YOUR Name boast about YOU.” It’s foolish to be rebellious & revolt against the KING of KINGS; it would be wise to submit, obey, worship, & take refuge in HIM & be blessed. Let the “Church” say Amen.
