Psalm 22:1-31

Why Have You Forsaken Me?
To the choirmaster: according to The Doe of the Dawn. A Psalm of David.

22 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
    Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?
O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer,
    and by night, but I find no rest.

Yet you are holy,
    enthroned on the praises of Israel.
In you our fathers trusted;
    they trusted, and you delivered them.
To you they cried and were rescued;
    in you they trusted and were not put to shame.

But I am a worm and not a man,
    scorned by mankind and despised by the people.
All who see me mock me;
    they make mouths at me; they wag their heads;
“He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him;
    let him rescue him, for he delights in him!”

Yet you are he who took me from the womb;
    you made me trust you at my mother’s breasts.
10 On you was I cast from my birth,
    and from my mother’s womb you have been my God.
11 Be not far from me,
    for trouble is near,
    and there is none to help.

12 Many bulls encompass me;
    strong bulls of Bashan surround me;
13 they open wide their mouths at me,
    like a ravening and roaring lion.

14 I am poured out like water,
    and all my bones are out of joint;
my heart is like wax;
    it is melted within my breast;
15 my strength is dried up like a potsherd,
    and my tongue sticks to my jaws;
    you lay me in the dust of death.

16 For dogs encompass me;
    a company of evildoers encircles me;
they have pierced my hands and feet—
17 I can count all my bones—
they stare and gloat over me;
18 they divide my garments among them,
    and for my clothing they cast lots.

19 But you, O Lord, do not be far off!
    O you my help, come quickly to my aid!
20 Deliver my soul from the sword,
    my precious life from the power of the dog!
21     Save me from the mouth of the lion!
You have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen!

22 I will tell of your name to my brothers;
    in the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
23 You who fear the Lord, praise him!
    All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him,
    and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
24 For he has not despised or abhorred
    the affliction of the afflicted,
and he has not hidden his face from him,
    but has heard, when he cried to him.

25 From you comes my praise in the great congregation;
    my vows I will perform before those who fear him.
26 The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied;
    those who seek him shall praise the Lord!
    May your hearts live forever!

27 All the ends of the earth shall remember
    and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations
    shall worship before you.
28 For kingship belongs to the Lord,
    and he rules over the nations.

29 All the prosperous of the earth eat and worship;
    before him shall bow all who go down to the dust,
    even the one who could not keep himself alive.
30 Posterity shall serve him;
    it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation;
31 they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn,
    that he has done it.

  2. The Lord is with me always. I shall not feel alone. When I don’t understand His hand, I will always trust His heart.

  3. Life is tough, but God! He is faithful. He keeps His promises.

    But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. Romans 8:37

    Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8

    Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he grows older he will not abandon it. Proverbs 22:6

    I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Galatians 2:20

    Seek Him. With all your heart.

  4. 27 All the ends of the earth shall remember
    and turn to the Lord,
    and all the families of the nations
    shall worship before you.
    28 For kingship belongs to the Lord,
    and he rules over the nations.

    Remind me Lord, when I forget, that I fight the good fight from victory. You have triumphed over the grave and You are coming back. “Every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of GOD the Father.”

  5. The Lord said that in this life we will have troubles but to take heart for He did as well and has overcome the world. The servant is not above the Master. Suffering lasts for a little while. He is Faithful and will bring deliverance, increasing our faith. He works all things together for the good to those who love Him. He makes lemonade out of the lemons in life. Let us praise His Name!

  6. This Psalm always gives me chills. It was written hundreds of years before Christ, and yet it describes the crucifixion with such amazing detail. Its actually somewhat terrifying that God foretold of it so exactly, with little details like them casting lots over his garments.

  7. Great is Thy faithfulness Oh Lord. Your loving kindness and compassion are new every morning. May we remember and turn back to You. Revive us again in Your Name Jesus Amen

  8. Lord, help me to never stop SHOUTING YOUR PRAISES from the rooftop.!! YOU ALONE ARE WORTHY TO BE PRAISED!!!!

  9. Verse 11….Be not far from me, for trouble is near, and there is none to help.
    Such a comforting plea…and the best part is knowing that God IS near and knows what troubles I face now and those that will come.
    Be not far from me!!

  10. What You endured, Lord, as You bore my sins on the cross – and even became sin and were forsaken by the Father – on my behalf, that I might be given Your righteousness is beyond understanding. But it brings eternal life to all who believe and everlasting glory and praise to You, our Savior, Lord of lords, King and High Priest.

  11. Oh God how majestic is you name, how powerful your word if we just believe it. He promised never to leave us even during the suffering and hard times and that is good news. Thank you Lord.

  12. A man born of women is of few days and those days are filled with trouble. Lord, I know to follow you, will cause the world to hate me. I will suffer because of it. I will have to bear my own cross. But, I remember I was taught to trust and believe that you hear and answer my prayers. At times, I feel so small and forgotten, everything and everybody seem to be against me. I know that you are my strength. You deliver those who trust and obey you. You are King of kings and Lord of lords. I praise and glorify your name.

  13. Jesus – crushed for my sins — ALIVE and near to me. My heart lives and I will praise His name forevermore!

    Thank you Lord that I can count on you to be with me as I walk through the highs and lows of life. You are the FAITHFUL One who never leaves His children. Amen

  14. This is a quote from Tony Evans; ” Faith is acting like something is so even when it is not so, in order that it might be so simply because GOD said so,” Though these words were true of King David , they were fully fulfilled in the Messiah. History serves as a reminder that we should continue to trust GOD in spite of our circumstances. Remember to rehearse the past & how the LORD rescued, & protected us back then. It will help us to trust HIM today & tomorrow. I know that HE hears me when I pray, which is why I pray in JESUS’ Name & then I wait with expectation. David’s testimony of his trust in GOD & how GOD cared for him in his struggles can help me have the confidence assurance that the same GOD cares for me now, tomorrow & beyond.
    Thank YOU LORD for all of YOUR Wonders.

  15. Just humbled and in awe! An incredible psalm that was very real to King David at the time, but also a prophetic visual, with incredible detail, of the death of Christ on the cross and His ascension into glory.

    “..Father forgive them for they know not what they do….” Luke 23:34
