Psalm 69:1-36

Save Me, O God
To the choirmaster: according to Lilies. Of David.

69 Save me, O God!
    For the waters have come up to my neck.
I sink in deep mire,
    where there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters,
    and the flood sweeps over me.
I am weary with my crying out;
    my throat is parched.
My eyes grow dim
    with waiting for my God.

More in number than the hairs of my head
    are those who hate me without cause;
mighty are those who would destroy me,
    those who attack me with lies.
What I did not steal
    must I now restore?
O God, you know my folly;
    the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you.

Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me,
    O Lord God of hosts;
let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me,
    O God of Israel.
For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach,
    that dishonor has covered my face.
I have become a stranger to my brothers,
    an alien to my mother’s sons.

For zeal for your house has consumed me,
    and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.
10 When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting,
    it became my reproach.
11 When I made sackcloth my clothing,
    I became a byword to them.
12 I am the talk of those who sit in the gate,
    and the drunkards make songs about me.

13 But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord.
    At an acceptable time, O God,
    in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.
14 Deliver me
    from sinking in the mire;
let me be delivered from my enemies
    and from the deep waters.
15 Let not the flood sweep over me,
    or the deep swallow me up,
    or the pit close its mouth over me.

16 Answer me, O Lord, for your steadfast love is good;
    according to your abundant mercy, turn to me.
17 Hide not your face from your servant,
    for I am in distress; make haste to answer me.
18 Draw near to my soul, redeem me;
    ransom me because of my enemies!

19 You know my reproach,
    and my shame and my dishonor;
    my foes are all known to you.
20 Reproaches have broken my heart,
    so that I am in despair.
I looked for pity, but there was none,
    and for comforters, but I found none.
21 They gave me poison for food,
    and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink.

22 Let their own table before them become a snare;
    and when they are at peace, let it become a trap.
23 Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see,
    and make their loins tremble continually.
24 Pour out your indignation upon them,
    and let your burning anger overtake them.
25 May their camp be a desolation;
    let no one dwell in their tents.
26 For they persecute him whom you have struck down,
    and they recount the pain of those you have wounded.
27 Add to them punishment upon punishment;
    may they have no acquittal from you.
28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living;
    let them not be enrolled among the righteous.

29 But I am afflicted and in pain;
    let your salvation, O God, set me on high!

30 I will praise the name of God with a song;
    I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
31 This will please the Lord more than an ox
    or a bull with horns and hoofs.
32 When the humble see it they will be glad;
    you who seek God, let your hearts revive.
33 For the Lord hears the needy
    and does not despise his own people who are prisoners.

34 Let heaven and earth praise him,
    the seas and everything that moves in them.
35 For God will save Zion
    and build up the cities of Judah,
and people shall dwell there and possess it;
36     the offspring of his servants shall inherit it,
    and those who love his name shall dwell in it.

  1. Dear Lord,
    Hear our cries of forgiveness. Deliver us from evil and help us be high and lifted up with you so that we can be with you forever. Let all heaven and earth praise your name forever and ever. Amen.

    1. Mi Dios a ti te alabaré todos los días de mi vida, mi clamor llega a ti eres mi Salvador padre amado Gracias de existir

    2. Praise the Lord who forgives and hears our Prayers. With Him our sins are washed away all we need to do is ask. Amen and Praise the Lord 🙏🏻✝🙏🏻✝💜💜

  2. Lord Jesus I remember this chapter from the days of Harvey when the deep waters covered so many homes. Oh thank you Lord for though it was a struggle You were with us. And You did pick us up out of it and restored our neighborhood. Oh the lessons You taught me. Oh how You did revive my heart. Keep reviving Lord. We need You so. Amen.

  3. We see part of our Lord ‘s suffering in this Psalm of David’s- He never sinned like we do, but how He was mocked and rejected and reproached , suffering a broken heart for these people- for me too. We can be encouraged and helped knowing Christ sees and understands perfectly. We turn to Him in faith , knowing He’s in control , asking for His help and deliverance, giving Him all the brokenness, and trusting Him to walk with us through it as He ultimately uses it all to grow us more and more to be like Him. We praise and thank God, even in the hurts of life, knowing He is lovingly working all for good and to bring Him glory.

  4. Just trying to navigate through this land and live this life that we have been so blessed to have, we find ourselves in trouble with people, places, and things. Sometime to the point we seem to be attacked on all sides, feeling as though the life is draining from our body. Hated without cause, understanding that salvation is not found on earth for us. Because of our human nature, we cry out to God to punish those who cause us to suffer. Yet, with so much pain and suffering, we call on the Lord, the One and only one who is able to save us. We pray and praise God if we are stuck or traveling through life troubles, though they may be many, WE PRAISE GOD!

  5. Jesus – steadfast and faithful

    Lord, I magnify Your name! Thank you for your steadfast love and your mercy. My hope is in You.
    Amen

  6. These verses certainly describe my thoughts and feelings as I attempt to give some kind of meaning to the conditions of our world today!
    As only God can do, there is the promise that the Lord hears the needy. My focus is to keep praying!

  7. “ I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NLT)

    “So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.” Romans 8:15-17 (NLT) Emphasizing we must also share in his suffering.

    When we go through super tough things, which we all do, I am reminded, as I am through this psalm, of the pain and suffering Christ went through, having never sinned, coming to earth as a man, to bring life and to save humanity… It really helps me keep into perspective whatever trial I may be facing. God is faithful and good always, and His promises will come to pass. He is the best friend we could ever have and He has our backs. Be encouraged. ❤️

  8. I celebrate thanksliving every day…it trains me to be thankful and notice my blessings.

    The joy of the Lord runs deep and being thankful is one of the things that I DO to connect with His blessings!

  9. Woah! David’s cry for help is deep, sincere, & for righteous reasons. I think about 1st, Ptr. 3:17; “For it is better to suffer for doing good, if this should be GOD’s Will, than for doing evil. We must live with integrity in this world so that any false accusations made against us won’t stick . There are times when we all feel helpless & don’t know what to do. This is a good prayer to remember to pray ( David’s prayer) make it our own. I wish that I was more like David; he prayed that the hatefulness of his enemies would turn against them, but he doesn’t go after them himself; he leaves that to GOD. Vengeance is MINE says the LORD. Sometimes GOD allows troubles or trails in our lives to get our focus back on HIM. HE doesn’t want us to walk this road alone ( HE is with us). HE will make it w/us. In the end David praises GOD & he thanks HIM in public in hopes that others like me who trust GOD may understand & rejoice too.
    Blessed be GOD.
