Exodus 19-20:1-21

The Ten Commandments

And God spoke all these words, saying,

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

“You shall have no other gods before me.

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

13 “You shall not murder.

14 “You shall not commit adultery.

15 “You shall not steal.

16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”

18 Now when all the people saw the thunder and the flashes of lightning and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking, the people were afraid and trembled, and they stood far off 19 and said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will listen; but do not let God speak to us, lest we die.” 20 Moses said to the people, “Do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of him may be before you, that you may not sin.” 21 The people stood far off, while Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.

  1. Thank you Lord for the commandments that Moses brought down from the mountain. You had a plan for the Israelites and you have a plan for sinners to save the world. Thank you Lord for looking beyond my fault and seeing my need. What a beautiful song.

  2. Good morning Lord!

We do fear you Lord because we know that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. And the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” Proverbs 9-10.

  3. Dear Heavnly Father,
Thank you for your commandments that we try so very hard not to break. However, we are all sinners and fall short each day.
Help us to stay in your Word and stay focused on You so we can stay on course and live the way you have planned for us. In Jesus’ name
    Amen.

  4. Thank You, Father, for giving us Your holy standards , which show us how far short we fall, even at our best. Thank for Your mercy and grace in providing a Precious Redeemer to pay the costly price of redeeming us to Yourself. Thank You for the new heart and new life you have given me so that I now have a heart to love and obey You, Lord.

  5. O LORD,

Thank you for your Word. As we study and meditate, speak to each of us.

May we hide your Word in our hearts so we will not sin against you.

O LORD, be our helper, protector, provider.

The harvest is white but the laborers are few.

Now, here am I, surrendering to you my all in all.

Until I am in the bosom of Abraham,
Let’s be telling others of your love
And the free gift of eternal salvation.

Thank you, Father, for another day.

    Amen

  6. Thou shall not kill – The President of SBC J D Greear at the Pro-Life march in DC Friday emphasis was we should fight for the life of a baby in the womb.

    1. Amen and we should also fight for unjustified murder. God’s word has revealed to me that all unjustified murder is sin.

  7. The Ten Commandments reveal God’s holiness and our sinfulness. They are meant to drive us to a Savior and tells us how to live holy and set apart unto God.

  8. We should honor the Holy God of creation, and not man
We follow government laws, as long as they are not against God’s laws.
God’s word addresses every social and political questions and concerns
Do not fear, God has come to test you. Trust is void of fear.
Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. The day of rest, worship and mediation in the word. So many jobs requires us to work on the Sabbath, God is greater than our circumstance and can change a heart. There is nothing to hard for him.
He who judges himself by others is not wise, God is the ultimate Judge, and rewarder. Keep Looking up.
Lord God, thank you for teaching me to walk in your holy word…Amen!
