Luke 18:1-14

The Parable of the Persistent Widow

18 And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

The Pharisee and the Tax Collector

He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: 10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

  1. There is much to be learned through these parables. Let God lead us in all the ways we should live. Call out to Him and He will hear you and give you your just rewards im due time .

    1. Dios líbrame de ser una persona presuntuosa orgullosa de vano gloriarme pues toda la honra y gloría es para nuestro Padre amado dame un corazón humilde para buscarte seguirte y amarte por el resto de mi vida y hasta la eternidad

  2. The bible says God sets Himself against the proud. Proverbs says “Let another man praise thee, and not thine own lips.

Paul said the only thing he could boast in was Jesus Christ.

    God humbles the proud.

Dear God, help me to know how to serve you and what you want me to do.

  3. I never looked at these 2 parables together. Bring your requests to God, will He find faith, and the character of humility; are they all related in our relationship with the Father and getting our needs fulfilled? I think so.

  4. God sees the heart of man. Boost not in your accomplishments for it is the Holy Spirit who gives us our ability.

  5. God knows my heart. I can’t hide from Him. Please forgive my selfishness and help me see others through your eyes. I look to You Lord for faith, trust, and strength and love.
    In Jesus name I pray.

  6. Lord create in us a clean heart O God and Renew a right spirit within me. Amen.
And Lord Jesus create a Damascus road experience on the roads of Ukraine In Jesus Name Amen.

  7. Song Title: Teach Me To Pray
    Phase from the song
“I need to see the sin of I do not care”

  8. Luke 18:1-14 is like Luke 11:5-9, JESUS is teaching in contrast. GOD is our FATHER as well as our SOVEREIGN LORD. All who come to GOD as FATHER in prayer will receive, unlike the unjust judge who throws his hands up & give her justice to get rid of her because of her persistence or the tax collector who knows he’s a sinner & the righteous Pharisee, who brags about his own-self goodness. GOD accepts the one who confesses & seeks mercy. My only hope is GOD’s Grace. “GOD’s riches or righteousness at CHRIST expense. To HIM be glory.

  9. God is listening and waiting, live in faith call on Him and He will answer. Don’t compare yourself to others just be as the tax collector humbled and in need of God.

    Be blessed church.
