Isaiah 9:1-8

For to Us a Child Is Born

9  But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.

2  The people who walked in darkness
    have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
    on them has light shone.
3 You have multiplied the nation;
    you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you
    as with joy at the harvest,
    as they are glad when they divide the spoil.
4 For the yoke of his burden,
    and the staff for his shoulder,
    the rod of his oppressor,
    you have broken as on the day of Midian.
5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult
    and every garment rolled in blood
    will be burned as fuel for the fire.
6 For to us a child is born,
    to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
    and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
    there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
    to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
    from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

8 The Lord has sent a word against Jacob,
    and it will fall on Israel;

    Father, thank you for Jesus. In every situation we encounter remind us that He is our Counselor, greater than any problem we face, He is our peace in any turmoil and He is the way to You. In His name I give You praise. Amen.

This beautiful passage about Jesus ‘s first coming also points to our Lord’s second coming when He takes His rightful place on the throne of David , ruling the whole world with perfect justice and righteousness, as our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. – This is how we know and love Him now , and one day all will bow and proclaim him Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

  8. Isaiah call on the people to rejoice over the happiness of a new day, because a better day is coming in the person of an ideal King. He will reign in peace and the implements of war will be destroyed. I thank you Lord, that you have called me out of darkness into the marvelous light to be united with those who carry out Christ’s Great Commission and bring in the harvest of the redeemed from all nations.

  9. A Child is born to us; JESUS had to be born as a child to come to us. A SON will be given; but HE is also the preexistent SON of the Living GOD WHO was given; a “GIFT” that keeps on giving. The PRINCE of peace. Peace is not the absent of fear, it’s the PRESENCE of GOD. Thank YOU LORD , my GOD & SAVIOR, YOUR PRESENCE is always & forever will be with me. My total being will thank YOU until time is no more.

  10. A blessing to have His Word where we can find the prophecies of My Saviorin the Old Testament, and then be able to turn a few pages over and read about the fulfillment of those prophecies in the New Testament! A blessing that I don’t ever want to take for granted!

  12. Thank you Lord for sending your son to shine light on our sin and to show us mercy and grace in order for us to to redeemed by a Saviou who will justly judge us.

    Father God, send Jesus soon, help me to be faithful in the harvest so that all your saints will be ready for His return. Amen
