Matthew 14:13-21

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

13 Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick. 15 Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” 16 But Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” 17 They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” 18 And he said, “Bring them here to me.” 19 Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 20 And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. 21 And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

  1. The Lord our God is a powerful and awesome god. If he can change water into wine and feed 5000 on a little bread and a few fish , just think what He can do for you and me. Believe in Him and see the miracles and changes take place in our lives. Thank you Lord for your love ,guidance and protection. Be with us today and everyday. Amen.

  2. I always find it interesting that the Bible never mentions how Jesus was able to speak to large crowds without some sort of a voice amplifier. It’s also interesting to me, the lengths people will go if it’ll be beneficial to them. So when we make excuses about why we can’t get involved in godly things, it is because inherently, we don’t believe it’ll be beneficial to us. In short, many of us follow Jesus because of what He is able to provide, not because we are truly seeking HIM.

  3. God can do incredible things with very little from us. Let God use the small and insufficient things we have to do great things in your life!

  4. The Bible tells us that Jesus often went away by Himself to pray.
If it was good enough for Him, it kind of shows us how important it is.
Lord God, help to always take time to read your work and meet with you every day.
    Thank you, Lord Jesus.

  5. I actually just heard a sermon about this on Sunday. Jesus is the bread of life, and he gave of himself on that day and everyone there was filled. I think it’s noteworthy that the fish was all eaten up and there was none left. But there was plenty of bread. Everyone ate bread and at the end there was more left over than they had started with. That’s also how Jesus works in our lives.

  6. Thank you for the Bible as it provides nourishment I need daily to walk the Christian life.

  7. Yes Lord thank you for You are the bread of life. I have tasted and You are good. You have helped me more than I could have ever imagined. I praise Your Holy Name. The Name above every name. Jesus. Jesus. Amen and amen.

  8. Thank You Lord for The Word. You are.the Bread of Life.Praise You Heavenly Father.

  9. There is nothing that goes on in our lives that Jesus is not concerned about. Jesus always addresses our needs with compassion, such as giving the disciples peace to calm their fears, healing the sick and feeding the hungry.

Jesus is teaching his disciples to do what he does. His disciples are having on job training (OJT). Jesus tells us that he does what he sees the Father do in like manner. He can do nothing on his own.

Jesus disciples saw that their supplies were limited, not enough to feed the crowds, whereas God’s has an unlimited supply. He takes our supply coupled with obedience and multiplies it. We must not only give to people what is freely given to us spiritually, but give those needs that we have sacrificed for as limited as they are. God will multiply them as needed.

Like Jesus, our lives must be led with prayer to our Father, giving thanks for what we have and a heart to share with others.

Thank you Lord for teaching us to have a meaningful relationship with you and others.
    Give me a servant’s heart!

  10. I shall supply all your needs according to the richest in heaven. When we as man do not see the enough with our circumstances God is saying I’m all you need. Just believe.

    Be blessed church
