Luke 10:25-37

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”

29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

  1. Dear Heavenly Father,
You have taught us to love our neighbors as ourselves and to have mercy on people less fortunate. Please help us to open our eyes to the world around us and be merciful and kind where we see we are needed. Only by the grace of God, go I. In Jesus’name. Amen.

  2. Show mercy and grace and help that person even though he may be of a different nationality or skin color. God loves all his children because they were created in his image. Don’t let pride get in the way of doing the work for the Lord. He forgives all people for their sins.

  3. I will love the Lord my God with all my heart and with all my soul and with all my strength and with all my mind, and my neighbor as myself.

  4. So why should I go out of my way to help someone I don’t even know? I suppose the best reason is that it’s simply the Christian thing to do. There is perhaps what might seem be a somewhat less altruistic motive for helping someone in need but one maybe also worth our consideration. Why should I love other people enough to help them? I am attracted to what Peter said. “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, for love covers a multitude of sins,” 1 Peter 4: 8. Who among us doesn’t need a multitude of sins covered?

  5. Lord, Your tender care and mercies, Your love for us should cause us as Your children to reach out to others, too, to help in any way we can. Your love in us reaches out to others to take action somehow to help them. Lord, help me to see the opportunities to help others as Your hands and feet.

  6. Father,

May I follow Jesus today. Every step, all the way.

May I not turn to my own desires, but stay focused
The path to heaven is narrow, Lord Jesus help me.

If someone asks who you are, will I be able to say?
If someone asks what you are, will I be able to tell?
If someone asks when and where you came in my life,
Will I be able to share?
If someone asks why I believe,
will my story help change a heart?

How will you use me today, dear LORD, how will you use me?

Father, you do not call the qualified. You qualify the called.

Prepare my heart to answer the 5-w’s and 1-h.

Now, together, Father, with Jesus in my heart and
    Filled with the Holly Spirit:

Let’s be going and doing and working and sharing the Good News.

    Amen.

  7. Our #1 priority in our lives is to Love the Lord our God and the number 2 priority should be loving our neighbors as ourselves. We should put our passion into action. Lord help us to value others as you do.

    1. Amen. There is nowhere in the Bible that teaches us to put ourselves first. God expects humility, compassion, grace, mercy and most of all love. How can we say we love God whom we haven’t seen but can’t love our neighbors (all people) who we see daily. If we are to be like Christ and have the Holy Spirit living inside of us as Christians we should be on the front line with loving others and not self. That is the only way this world is going to change. Love conquers all. May God continue to remove the scales from the world’s eyes and help everyone see it is all about loving each other and putting Christ first.
