Christ’s Example of Humility

1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

  1. Dear Heavenly Father,
    Help me to be humble and involve myself with others best interests above my own , as Christ’ example has shown. His name will always be lovely to my ears as I live trying to exalt His name. In Jesus name, Amen.

    Lord help me to always have the mindset of doing nothing for selfish reasons and always thinking of the needs of others above my own.

    1. There is no name higher than Jesus, no one of more important!
      Praising Him for the obedience He endured even to the cross, so that I might live near to the Father.

    2. Aren’t we glad for the servant’s hearts in our midst? Where would we all be without them?

      Lord, burden our hearts with the needs of others and help us to meet those needs. Amen.

  3. I must be come less so my Lord can become more. Lord, may I always look outwardly to seek to help those in need. May I stand in the gap for those who are in need of pray, healing, and salvation.

  4. What an example of servanthood. May we understand exactly what that means. What a Joy it is to acknowledge that Jesus Christ is MY LORD.

  6. (V. 7) “but (Jesus) emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,” It’s our ultimate example of being Spirit-filled…emptying ourselves of ourselves so He can have control of us, for His glory. Please help me, Lord, to be growing in Christlikeness, today and until you call me home. Amen.

    I want to take your word and shine it all around
    But first help me just to live it Lord. And when I’m doing well, help me to never seek a crown
    For my reward is giving glory to you…”
    More of You Lord. Less of me.

Lord, this is beyond our understanding, emptying and giving Yourself over to perfect obedience and servant hood out of such love and devotion, not only for Your Father in heaven, but for our sake, in order to redeem us for Yourself . To redeem me! What a price our Father in heaven paid to give You His beloved Son for our eternal lives. How great is this gift! How great is our God!

  10. Jesus’s name is above every name. At the name of Jesus, every knee should bow on earth & in heaven. Thank you Jesus for what you did for me.

  12. I must become less so that You can become great in my life. Jesus is the true model of a humble servant.

  13. This is my favorite passage of scripture that I memorized as a young girl and verses 3-4 are two of my life verses. Not easy to do but the Holy Spirit continually brings them to mind and uses them to make me more like Him. Thank you Lord for the gift of your Holy Word and for the way you use it in my life.

  14. It can be so hard to humble yourself, especially when people do you wrong. As I was reading this passage, the Spirit brought to mind Judas Iscariot. In the very beginning, Jesus knew that Judas would betray Him and yet, He still humbled Himself. I remember a few years ago a former mentor told me, “Telesha, you must learn to love your Judas.”

    Me loving my Judas? Nope. As I have gotten older and matured more in the faith, that has followed me everywhere I go. It takes a great deal of humility to run this race. In order to conquer it, we must have the mind of Christ, let the Spirit lead us in all we do, and crucify our flesh daily.

  15. Precious Lord, help me empty myself and to understand exactly what that means. Your example is powerful and everlasting.

  16. Heavenly Father, I come to you with gratitude and humble heart. Continue to mold me, you are the potter and I am the clay, use me as a vessel to do your work , may I grow in selflessness and be filled with more of you and less of me daily.

  19. Kenosis, Jesus only did as the Holy Spirit directed Him though His judgment and actions were perfect in nature and purpose and without question God’s. He had no other prerogative but to do the will of God the Father. In like manner, we should be like Jesus in self-denial and being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord with other believers. Having no other prerogative but to do the will of our Father. Including prioritizing the needs of others first, while demonstrating the sacrificial love of Christ in our everyday actions by the power of the Holy Spirit.

  23. Amen!!!, Hallelujah!!! where there is unity in the body of believers, the Spirit of GOD is at home. When you know who you are & WHO’s you are, serving others is not a problem. I pray that as I practice everyday the same mind of CHRIST (i.e.) in humility & not with selfish conceit will erase the practice & my attitude & actions would become my lifestyle. JESUS has “all authority” in Heaven, on earth, & beneath the earth for all time. Praise HIM forever.

  27. Helps me realize that not being selfish but willing to go out to be at service to another who needs you because of how lives in you to see Him who is willing to be there and love them through you.

  29. How exciting it is to be aware that God can use me to bless others! Each day starts with the anticipation of the people and opportunities that He will present to me….and a sincere prayer that these opportunities when met with His help, will point people to Him.
