Isaiah 61:1-11

The Year of the Lord’s Favor

61 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
    because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
    he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
    and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
    and the day of vengeance of our God;
    to comfort all who mourn;
to grant to those who mourn in Zion—
    to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
    the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
    the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.
They shall build up the ancient ruins;
    they shall raise up the former devastations;
they shall repair the ruined cities,
    the devastations of many generations.

Strangers shall stand and tend your flocks;
    foreigners shall be your plowmen and vinedressers;
but you shall be called the priests of the Lord;
    they shall speak of you as the ministers of our God;
you shall eat the wealth of the nations,
    and in their glory you shall boast.
Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion;
    instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot;
therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion;
    they shall have everlasting joy.

For I the Lord love justice;
    I hate robbery and wrong;
I will faithfully give them their recompense,
    and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.
Their offspring shall be known among the nations,
    and their descendants in the midst of the peoples;
all who see them shall acknowledge them,
    that they are an offspring the Lord has blessed.

10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord;
    my soul shall exult in my God,
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation;
    he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress,
    and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth brings forth its sprouts,
    and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up,
so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise
    to sprout up before all the nations.

  1. I will greatly rejoice in the Lord for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation.

    1. Alegraos en el Señor porque su misericordia es grande y duradera su gloria resplandece gracias por tu gracia mi Salvador

    2. So perfectly said. Amen and Hallelujah to the King of our salvation.✝🙏🏻✝🙏🏻💜💜

  2. Let us rejoice in the LORD, O Hallelujah, rejoice in the LORD. May the good news spread around the world as new Christ-followers sprout up in all nations. Now, let’s go forth sharing the good news and may there be an abundant harvest.

  3. Why does Luke 4:18 include recovery of sight to the blind when Jesus is reading this page? I don’t see that mentioned in the Isaiah 61 passage.

  4. How great You are, LORD! All 3 Persons , Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, working together to bring about Your glorious plan of redemption, pouring out grace on the world in this age of grace . Jesus, You fulfilled this in Your first coming and are still using Your church to share this precious good news to the world; and we know just as surely You are coming again to bring in the day of vengeance of God on the evil in the world and then set up Your righteous Kingdom , ruling as the delivered and redeemed Israel’s rightful King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Then we’ll experience these other rich full blessings of salvation with the salvation of Israel and the nations worshipping Christ Jesus and righteousness and praise sprouting up before all nations. We are rich with the blessings and joy of salvation now, but there’s more to come. What a day it will be when Israel is brought into salvation , the world is made right, and we all together see our Lord glorified as He rightly deserves.

    1. This Scripture led me to think of the role of the Church to its people and to those in the mission fields beyond its gates. bd

  5. Endowed with so much JESUS will accomplish GOD’s purpose for Israel and the world. JESUS speaks of “the blind receiving their sight in Matthew 11:4FF. His Words matched that of Isaiah & Luke which validated who HE was. This is “Great News” (quoting our Pastor) better than Good. Thank You LORD .
    Psalms 148:13 states: “Let them all praise the Name of the LORD! HIS Name is greater than all others; HIS glory is above earth and Heaven. PRAISE the LORD!!!

  6. Lord God, I thank you for Jesus and the empowering of the Holy Spirit that allows the humbled and the brokenhearted to recognize and repent of their sins and receive Christ as their Savior. Thank you for planting the Tree of Righteousness, Jesus Christ, that He will exercise righteous judgement on all forces of unrepentant evil. Thank you Lord for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the new life it bring for the rebuilding of the destruction caused by disobedience and infidelity. You, oh Lord have allowed the believing Gentile to serve with the believing Jew in the pastoral work of the Kingdom. THANK YOU LORD FOR SALVATION, IT BRINGS PEACE TO MY SOUL!

  7. Verse 8…..For I the Lord love justice. I hate robbery and wrong. There is justice coming!
