Luke 4:31-44

Jesus Heals a Man with an Unclean Demon

31 And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the Sabbath, 32 and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word possessed authority. 33 And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, 34 “Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” 35 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. 36 And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!” 37 And reports about him went out into every place in the surrounding region.

Jesus Heals Many

38 And he arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they appealed to him on her behalf. 39 And he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them.

40 Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them. 41 And demons also came out of many, crying, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

Jesus Preaches in Synagogues

42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them, 43 but he said to them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.” 44 And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

    1. It is so amazing how the demons knew this was the living King. We as disciples need to spread the wonderful news about the Lamb of God and all that he does. Amen and Glory be to our Lord and Savior 🙏🏻✝🙏🏻✝💜💜

Perhaps they knew who He was because He created them. We should always keep in mind that Christ was fully God and fully man. He too was at creation when the Trinity created every angelic being. Those who chose to go with Satan in his fall know their end. Even Satan knows he has but a short time to work his evil.

  1. He came to seek and to save all those who are lost. It is up to us now , his disciples , to carry on spreading the good news to all those we meet. Thank you LORD for loving us this much . Amen.

  2. Our Lord can heal and save those who trust in Him. Now more than ever we need this from Him. Look and see for the Lord id good. Praise the Lord and make Him your Lord.

  3. Jesus always involved Himself in men’s infirmities, sins and diseases. He empowers us with His healing power.

  4. Satan and his servants have always known Jesus was the Messiah. We are called to recognize him and share his teachings with others.

  5. The demons not only knew Who Jesus was, they called Him by name and knew His power. Shouldn’t we Christians do the same?….Know Who Jesus is, call Him by name, and know His power. We see many every day that don’t know anything about Him. We see those that know of Him, but make fun of Him. There are those that straight out show their disdain for Him. Prayers for all of them.

  6. In these last days, there seems to be evidences of demon possession. Last week there was an illegal alien at the border yelling evil sounds. There was another illegal alien thrashing on the ground. The further we get away from God, we can expect to see more demon activity.

  7. Jesus healed and taught the word of the lord everywhere he went. He healed many by the power of his word. I pray for hope and complete healing today in Jesus name.

  8. Luke demonstrates JESUS’ mission; HE frees a man from the grip of a demon & heals Peter’s mother-in-law, plus many other various kinds of sicknesses. After the sunset, the Sabbath was over & they were all free to travel. JESUS didn’t want to be known as just the miracle worker; HE had a message to proclaim, “the Good News.” Praise FATHER, JESUS, & Holy Spirit.

  9. Thank you Lord for your awesome power! There is nothing too hard for my God. He Can do all things and I believe and count on him to control and do all things in my life. Thank you Lord!

  10. The demons believed and knew Jesus but they were not saved!!! It takes more than believing… hear, believe, repent, confess, baptism, then rise to walk an obedient life. Acts 2:38, Mark 16:15-16.
