Matthew 14:22-33

Jesus Walks on the Water

22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

  1. Yes, we of little faith …take heart and believe…He has come that we may have life and have life abundantly. Thank you ,Lord! Amen.

    2. We are to believe in Faith not by sight. Your heart needs to believe that the Lord will always take care of us no matter what. Glory be to the Lord most High. ✝🙏🏻✝🙏🏻💜💜🙌🏻🙌🏻

  2. Some people make fun of Peter’s lack of faith.

But tell me, who else got out of the boat??

    Way to go, Peter.

Lord Jesus, help me to follow you more and to be a better example to those that I influence.

    Thank you.

  3. Jesus went before him on the water, Peter offered himself, Jesus commanded him to come, and Peter imitated his Lord. What a picture of a believer’s life!

  4. Jesus will not let you sink in your situation however great the waves. Will you take His hand? He empowers us.

  5. A favorite story for sure! I have wondered what lesson Jesus would have had if Peter had been successful in his walk toward Jesus. Regardless, Jesus didn’t let Peter go down. He reached out to save him in his disbelief, just as He does for me.
What a lesson for Peter and those watching!

  6. Though JESUS was absent from them , HE was mindful of them, HE told them to go ahead of HIM to the other side. Earlier in this Chapter John the Baptist was beheaded, JESUS fed the Five Thousand & now HE’s walking on water that HE can turn into wine. What more do you need to have faith? HE demonstrated HIS Divine Authority over the world that HE created. JESUS knew what would happen when HE allowed them to go through such a fearful situation. HE saved them & they worshiped HIM. JESUS wants us to discover that HE”S bigger than our fears & our doubts. LORD, I pray that YOU forgive me especially when I get frustrated. Thank YOU for interceding on my behalf. YOU truly are my LORD & SAVIOR.

  7. I love that Jesus reached out His hand “immediately” to Peter to bring him in. Just another example of how the Lord is always there to meet our immediate needs because He cares so much for us.

  8. Only when we take our eyes of Jesus will we sink in life. He is the only powerful sustainer available.

    Be blessed church

  9. In life, like the wind, trouble will come and we do not know from which direction or even why it came, but we do know that it comes against us. It will rob us of our peace.

The good thing about Jesus as our Savior is that he knows where we are and what we need.

These disciples are new disciples. Yes, they have seen Jesus calm the storm before. They are not yet rooted and grounded in their faith, but they are growing. If we are to grow in Christ, we must go through some trials in life; enough trials to strengthen our faith followed with prayer.

Trials show up and expose the weak areas in our lives, areas where humanity is in control. I have a sense of control as long as the wind and waves of life don’t come against me. If it does, my whole foundation is shaken and my life has become uncertain.

I can no longer trust in my ability, my knowledge, and my experience. I need to realize that I’m in over my head and recognize Jesus in the midst of the storm.

Peter trusted Jesus enough to get out of the boat, walk on water, a surface never meant for man to walk on, with his eyes fixed on Jesus. Jesus will do what no other can do when we want to come to him in perfect faith.

Our faith fails, not Jesus faith, but ours, when we look at our accomplishments without recognizing him. We must have perfect faith, faith without doubt.

Lord, when I find myself over whelmed and sinking in despair, help me to refocus and cry out to you, “Lord, save me.”
