Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

31 And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

34 And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? 37 For what can a man give in return for his soul? 38 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

9 And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”

  1. Lord, teach me to stay focused on You. I want to deny myself and follow You, always. Thank You for Your patience and reminders. Thank you for Your Word. Thank You for listening to my prayers. Thank You for healing this broken heart. When I reflect, I see how you have changed me. It strengthens my faith and shows me to fight through moments of doubt by praying and reading Your Word.

    Growing through a stronghold is possible with You and Your love. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

    It is so easy to think of ourselves always and to deny you and others.
    Help me to deny myself and be sure to put you and others ahead of myself.
    For what does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his soul.
    Lord God, Help us to remember that You have the whole world in your hands.
    And help me to serve you and others better.
    Amen

  6. V: 34. Take up your cross means to die to yourself and embrace God’s ways and will no matter the cost to you. It is an identification with Christ and discovering our true life. It also means to accept the rejection, discomfort and persecution that are connected to Christ.

  8. Father in Heaven, cleanse me of all sin and fill me with Your Spirit, that my mind may be firmly set on You and Your kingdom purposes. Nothing else matters for eternity.
    Thank You for Your great salvation and for Your steadfast love.

  9. What do I want? Is it difficulties, suffering, or inconvenience if I identify w/JESUS & lose out on the abundant life HE promised. NOT!!! I pray that I will tell myself no now when I’m in conflict w/GOD & publicly identify w/JESUS & gain eternal life. To GOD be glory.

  10. To deny self snd follow Christ. In this world there are so many things that pull on the heart strings of life that begs us to answer the QUESTION who do we follow. When we see our world changing before our very eyes with sexual immorality, same sex marriages, prejudices, evilness and wickedness among Christians and we stay quiet because we donot want to rock the boat, this is what saving your life looks like, but to loose your life you stand on Gods truth no matter what, no matter who is with you or against you. Knowing your Heavenly Father is always nesr.
