The Prophecies Yet to Be Fulfilled

Luke 21:25-28

The Coming of the Son of Man

25 “And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26 people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

He is risen!

Jesus Christ is not in the grave—He is alive! On Easter Sunday, we celebrate the victorious resurrection of our Savior. His life, death, and resurrection fulfilled over 100 prophecies in just 33 years, and His resurrection proved once and for all that He is the Son of God, the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords. But here’s the incredible part: He’s not finished. What He has done is only the beginning.

John MacArthur notes:

“Prophecy occupies one fifth of Scripture. And of that one fifth, one third of that focuses on the second coming. There are over 650 general prophecies in Scripture, of which half of them concern Christ. And out of the 330 or so that concern Christ, 225 of those point to His second coming. Of the forty-six Old Testament prophets, less than ten speak of His first coming. Thirty-six speak of His second coming.

There are over 1,500 passages of the Scripture that refer to the second coming, one out of every twenty-five verses in the Bible. For each time the Bible mentions the first coming of the Messiah, it mentions His second coming eight times. For each time the Bible mentions the atonement, it mentions His second coming two times. Jesus referred to His return twenty-one times and over fifty times in the New Testament we are told to be ready for His return.”

Are you ready for His return? Jesus’ first coming was but a glimpse of his power, works, and reign.

Luke 21:25-28 describes the Second Coming like this:

25 “And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26 people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

Action Step: Church family, let’s gather! It’s time to celebrate the risen Jesus together this Easter Sunday! As we celebrate, remember that resurrection hope is meant to be shared. Who do you know that needs to hear it? Text them. Invite them. Sit with them. After the service, ask about their story—and share yours. The tomb is empty, and that changes everything.

  1. I’m so thankful that Christ has fulfilled every prophecy concerning his arrival, ministry, death and resurrection. He can be trusted to fulfill every one of his prophecies that speak of His return.

Lord, help me to live my life longing for your return and to serve and love others into the kingdom so that they can experience eternity with you!

    Amen

  2. What a glorious Sunday! He is Risen! What a spirit filled scripture to focus on!

Hallelujah! We exalt our Lord and Saviour! He is Risen! Let us pray for those needing salvation and for our country to live in peace. There is so much anger in our world today. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 esv

    May we:
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…

    May we be:
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.

May we remember and cling to:
Jesus Christ will be with us always, to the end of the age. O, Hallelujah.

Now, let’s be going and doing and working for the kingdom.

And, Father, if you grant us tomorrow, let’s repeat.

All for and through the name of Jesus Christ,

    Amen
